Dear Friends: 

The Presbytery of the James held a called meeting on July 19, 2006, at First Church, Charlottesville, VA.  We are most grateful for the fine hospitality of First Church in hosting this meeting on a hot summer afternoon.   

Attendance:  31 congregations out of 113 represented;  49 Elder Commissioners; 31 Minister Commissioners; 2 from Boards and Committees; 1 Certified Educators/Elders; and 29 visitors. 

Our business was brief. 

1.                  The Committee on Preparation for Ministry requested approval of readers for ordination exams.  The following persons were elected:  Rev. Nancy Clark and Rev Todd McCoy; Elder Charles Holmes (Chester Church).  Alternates elected were Elder Molly Ashby (Ginter Park) and Elder Jim Chambers (St. Giles).

2.                  Examination for ordination.  Candidate Jane Govan preached and was examined for ordination.  Her examination was sustained by the presbytery.  Jane will be going as Associate Pastor for the Olivet Church.  Congratulations to her on completion of her studies and preparation for ministry.

3.                  Administrative Commission:  An Administrative Commission was appointed by the presbytery for the All Soul’s Congregation with the following powers:  G-9.0503a (4) to work with the Session of All Souls Church concerning conflicts in the church and to resolve the conflicts; and G-11.0103o the power to dissolve the pastoral relationship.  The Commission is composed of Rev. Joel Morgan, moderator; Rev. Beverly Bullock; Rev. Ron Bullis; Elder Evelyn Thomas (St. Giles); Elder Vernon Greene (First, Richmond); Elder Ella Johnson (Salisbury); and Elder Jeff Lloyd (Ginter Park). 

NEXT MEETINGS:

            The 64th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery will be Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Camp Hanover, Mechanicsville, VA.
